It's one day before the official release of her new album, Circus, and Britney Spears is already riding the crest of its success. As early as May 2008, there has been immense interest in this new Britney Spears because if it her first since coming out of a downward spiral on her personal and professional life. Nobody thought she could recover considering how low she had sunk last year with her string of crazy tabloid exploits - the breakdowns in full view of the paparazzi capped with her head-shaving episode - and the embarrassment of her train wreck performance on MTV’s "Video Music Awards." People,
fans and detractors alike, were curious how this new album would turn out. Moreover, they wondered if the music superstar still had anything left in her to pick herself (and her career) up from the dumps.

'Womanizer', the album's first single, silenced her critics. It became Britney Spears' first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since her debut "...Baby One More Time" almost ten years ago. It made a record jump from ninety-six to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record set by T.I.'s "Live Your Life", which had jumped from number eighty to number one the week before. It also garnered first-week download sales of 286,000, the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital downloads in 2003, topping Mariah Carey's take for "Touch My Body" by just over 200 units. The 'Womanizer' music video was a huge success as well. It became a worldwide success right after it premiered on the internet. In the United Kingdom the video was viewed 7 million times in less than 48 hours, breaking the record held by Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love' that was viewed 5.4 million times in that same time. In the United States the video was viewed by three million people in less than 48 hours making it the third fastest viewed video, just behind Spears' 'Piece of Me', and Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend'. To date, the music video has been viewed more than 23 million times on YouTube, and almost 4 million times on MTV.com.

This was followed by a string of personal and professional successes as well. On September 7, 2008, Britney Spears opened the MTV Video Music Awards for the third time. Although having not performed, a skit with Jonah Hill was pre-taped, as well as an introduction speech to the official opening of the show. She won Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video Of The Year for "Piece of Me". On October 21, 2008, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Steele declared a mistrial and dismissed the August 2007 driving without a license misdemeanor charges against Britney. Her lawyer claimed she had a valid Louisiana license and a California permit was not required. On November 6, 2008, Britney Spears won two awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, "Album of The Year" for Blackout and "Act of 2008". And more recently, she Britney picked up more awards from the Bambi Awards in Germany, where she also performed.

It looks like Britney Spears in well on her way to recovery, personally and professionally. With the release of 'Circus' (the album) tomorrow, many are expecting the same results as with 'Womanizer', if not better. The 'Circus' single is already generating a lot of buzz, with searches for the 'Circus' music video steadily rising up the charts. No word yet on when it will be released. However, many are guessing it won't be far behind the release of the album tomorrow.
