Seems like it was just a couple of months ago that we witnessed the end of American Idol season 7, where we saw the battle royale of the two Davids - Archuleta and Cook. Seems like it was just several weeks ago when we saw David Cook crowned as the new American Idol, to the delight of millions of his fans around the world who have followed his rise in the popular American reality show. Now, the two Davids are carving out their own solo careers, each releasing his first solo album. Likewise, we have been reading how auditions for the next season of American Idol have started, with a new (fourth) judge to make the selection process more interesting.
Soon we will witness the start of American Idol 8 on television, starting with a review of the audition process. This is one of the most interesting phases of the competition for me, as well as for millions of American Idol followers out there. From these first few shows, we will get a glimpse of the talents (and non-talents) who tried their luck at becoming the next music superstar. We get to pick our own favorites, follow them through the elimination process and see how they improve, or fail.
The elimination phase is also the most entertaining for me. This is where we see the zaniest acts who try to get into American Idol year after year. There are those who believe in their 'innate' musical talent even though their voices sound worse than the screech of braking car tires, or a scared animal desperately howling at night. He he. We also see the craziest of characters performing in front of the judges in various costumes for their chance at fifteen minutes of fame.
American Idol season 8 will be coming to our television screens in just over a month and it is starting to make its presence felt by launching a promotional video. And for the first time in its history, American Idol 8 is featuring a former winner in its preview video. The life of David Cook before and after his Idol victory is featured as a short story.
First seen during the Thanksgiving weekend on FOX, the video ad starts with his win and the glory that he received after that - the giving autographs, television appearances, interviews, riding limousines and posing for the paparazzi. It then rewinds back to his earliest days At American Idol 7, when he was still auditioning and Paula Abdul asked him, "Are you the next American Idol?" That scene sent goosebumps all over my body. It then moves forward again with David Cook singing his debut single "Light On".
