The nominations will be announced in a few hours so check back later for it.

If there's one true barometer for the Academy Awards (Oscars) every year, the Golden Globe Awards is it. Given every year in January, the Golden Globe Awards is looked upon as a credible prediction for Oscar nominations/nominees. Though various critics awards preceding it are also considered to be good indicators of who will snag the all-important Oscar
nominations, the credibility and clout the Hollywood Foreign Press has bears a bigger influence on Academy voters. Every year, Hollywood looks forward to the announcement of Golden Globe Awards nominations/nominees as a precursor to the Oscars.

Update: The winners have been revealed. You can see the results HERE
The first Golden Globe Awards were held in 1940, at the 20th Century Fox studios. It has since been held annually, at various locations throughout the next decade, notably the Beverly Hills Hotel, "? Club" and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It was during the early stages of the 1950s that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the decision to establish a special award that recognizes outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry. To give importance to the award and recognize its subject as an international figure in the entertainment industry, the award was presented to Cecil B. DeMille in 1950, the official name of the award thus became the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Unlike the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes not only bestows individual and collaborative movie achievements for the year. It also hands out trophies for outstanding achievements in television. It like the Oscars and the Emmys all rolled into one. Thus, its ceremonies are always well-attended by Hollywood stars and executives.

Who will snag nominations this year? We'll find out in a few hours. For now, let's see which films and actors have already received nominations (or wins) from various critics organizations. These may provide a clue as who will snag a Golden Globe nom, and an Oscar.

Postscript: BTW, Here are the important dates to remember in the 2009 Hollywood awards calendar: the 2009 Golden Globe nominations on December 11, the SAG nominations on December 18, the 2009 Golden Globe Awards on January 11, the 2009 Oscar nominations/Academy Award nominations on January 22, the SAG Awards winners/results on January 25 and the 2009 Oscar Awards on February 22, 2009.
