John McCain has had his time in the limelight after the elections, appearing on 'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno four days ago in an interview marked by some serious post-election banter together with the requisite jokes and frivolity Jay Leno is known for. John McCain's first post-election TV interview reportedly gave 'The Tonight Show' its best Tuesday ratings since February 2007, so people are definitely still interested in what the election principals have to say. Sarah Palin has also done her media rounds, appearing in more interviews than any of the four main characters in the just concluded presidential election saga. (If Palin has a market, Obama definitely has more, much more.)

But this time, it's the leading man's turn. President-elect Barack Obama, together with soon-to-be First lady Michelle, in an hour long exchange about the elections, delving into the Obamas' first-hand account of the final days of the campaign, what transpired backstage while they were waiting for the official results, how they felt when it was official and what their plans are in the coming weeks before the inauguration. The people of America, and the rest of the world, currently in the midst of Obamania are hungry for more about the incoming First Family and this '60 Minutes' feature will surely be a hit.

The interview was concluded on Friday in Chicago, with '60 Mintues' correspondent Steve Kroft at the helm, but will not be shown until Sunday night. In its website, CBS News released a snippet of that first post-election interview in an article entitled 'Obamas Describe Moment of Victory' (video below):

President-elect Barack Obama and First Lady-elect Michelle Obama describe the moment on election night when the reality of his victory hit home in their first post-election interview.

Asked when it sunk in that her husband had won, Michelle Obama told Kroft, "I remember, we were watching the returns and, on one of the stations, Barack's picture came up and it said, 'President-Elect Barack Obama.' And I looked at him and said, 'You are the 44th president of the United States of America. Wow. What a country we live in.'"

"How about that?" President-elect Obama added. "Yeah. And then she said, 'Are you going take the girls to school in the morning?'"

"I did not," Michelle Obama replied, laughing. "I didn't say that."

We'll know how that argument ended when we see the complete final cut of Barack Obama's first post-election interview with '60 Minutes' on Sunday.

Meanwhile, President-elect Barack Obama has announced that he will be resigning from the Senate effective this coming Sunday, November 16, 2008.

"It has been one of the highest honors and privileges of my life to have served the people of Illinois in the United States Senate. In a state that represents the crossroads of a nation, I have met so many men and women who've taken different journeys, but hold common hopes for their children's future." said president-elect.

"It is these Illinois families and their stories that will stay with me as I leave the United States Senate and begin the hard task of fulfilling the simple hopes and common dreams of all Americans as our nation's next President."
