I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was another hoax when I received a forwarded email from a friend of a friend. In fact, it had been in my inbox for past eight days, unopened. But that was until I saw the actual picture of the baby with sixteen toes as I surfed the web earlier tonight. Yup, that's right, the poor little thing has been overly blessed with extra digits on both feet. And when I finally opened my forwarded email, it was the same girl, same photos. Still, I was doubtful at first. Who wouldn't? With the misguided Photoshop expertise of some people today, any photo cheat is possible. I then checked the web for news about this poor little baby, and was finally convinced of the photo's authenticity after finding the same shots posted on Chinese news website.

Poor little child (the news didn't mention if it is a boy or a girl). It will grow up as a freak of nature, ridiculed by playmates no end. Unless something can be done surgically to remove the extra digits and make the feet look normal, and functioning like normal feet. I also noticed that there's no big toe on both feet. All the digits are of the same size. Poor thing.

What could be the cause of this birth defect? Genetics? Environmental pollution? Or a chemical side effect? Wasn't it just a few weeks ago when there was a photo of another Chinese baby with 12 toes and 12 fingers? Or how about the one with an extra penis on his back? Yikes! With the food poisoning scandals coming out of China these days it's really not surprising to find such abnormalities. Moreover, with the Chinese's current environmental record caused by its rapid development, who knows what else will come out in the news in the coming days. I just hope these babies will get the proper help they need to grow up and lead normal lives. (I'll try to find the photos of the other babies I mentioned earlier and post them here.
