Gossip Girl: watch free 'Gossip Girl' episodes (online videos)

Lindsay Lohan's loss is television's gain. That's what I heard about Gossip Girl, one of the hottest television shows of the current fall season. It was originally intended for theatrical
release with Lohan as the main character (talk about a real-life title role!) but was eventually developed into a television series by the same brains behind 'The O.C.'. Now, on its second season, Gossip Girl is reaping tremendous success, enough to send searches for 'gossip girl online', gossip girl online episodes', 'watch gossip girl online' and their many iterations to skyrocket on Google Trends.

My nieces are addicted to the show, and that's how I came to be introduced to Gossip Girl. I'm not really a fan of the show, much too juvenile for my tastes. But I have seen snippets of a few episodes when the younger members of the household watch it. Indeed, it seems that a majority of its loyal followers are teenage girls, with a few boys, young adults and thirty somethings thrown in, enamored by the lives and intrigues of socialite young adults growing up on New York City's Upper East Side. Gossip Girl takes viewers inside the exclusive world of these privileged teenagers at an elite New York City private school and each episode is told through the eyes of an anonymous blogger as the best gossip and deepest secrets involving sex, drugs and jealousy are dished and revealed.

At the outset of the story, the previously unquestioned social supremacy of teenage rich-bitch Blair Waldorf is suddenly and unexpectedly placed in jeopardy by the return of Blair's former best friend Serena Van der Woodson, who has just been booted out of boarding school. An unabashed "party animal" and romantic predator, Serena not only threatens Blair's position as the school's unofficial leader, but also tries to move in on Blair's handsome-hunk boyfriend Nate Archibald. These momentous events are observed and commented upon by Blair's current best buds Kati and Isabel, and by the series' obligatory "blue-collar" characters, likable Dan Humphrey and his socially ambitious sister Jenny - the latter unwittingly targeted for eventual seduction by the school's resident Lothario, Chuck Bass.

That was how the story started. And one season and twenty three episodes later, the scheming, bitching, sex, drugs and drama continue - something like afternoon soap for teenagers on prime time, with a little of 'Sex and the City' and 'Mean Girls' thrown in.
