It started as a rumor two weeks ago, with reports from an alleged source in the McCain campaign leaking out info that Sarah Palin would appear in an upcoming 'Saturday Night Live' (SNL) episode to spoof Tina Fey (?). The report further stated that since the comedian's impersonation of the Republican vice presidential candidate drew laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, top honchos from the John McCain presidential campaign were thinking
on how to respond.
Some McCain aides thought Sarah Palin joking about the 'SNL' routines on the campaign trail was enough, but others believe she needed to give a 'return punch' on NBC, like spoofing Tina Fey perhaps? And how exactly do you spoof Tina Fey? Apparently, a parody of Fey's American Express commercials is one idea that has been in the works.
Since then, the rumors got even stronger until John McCain himself, during his return to Letterman, confirmed that his running mate was appearing in this weekend's 'Saturday Night Live'. A John McCain campaign spokeswoman, Jill Hazelbaker, later confirmed Palin's appearance but offered no other details about the Alaska governor's guesting.
What will Sarah Palin do on SNL? Will she really spoof Tina Fey (that's would be fun)? Or will she just be herself? One speculation going around is that she'll be appearing with President Bush. Not the real George W. Bush but Josh Brolin who plays the president in Oliver Stone's new movie, 'W.'. Will they talk about foreign policy? Russia perhaps? Or will President Bush teach her a thing or two about the 'Bush Doctrine'? He he.
Whatever Sarah Palin ends up doing tonight on 'Saturday Night Live' I'm sure it will be a hit. If Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was a success, can we expect anything less from the original? Already, the anticipation is huge. Expect a lot of as Sarah Palin's appearance on SNL unfolds.I will be posting the video of Sarah Palin on 'Saturday Night Live' (SNL) here once it's available. For now, let me leave you with the video of Tina Fey on Letterman discussing (what else?) her Sarah Palin impersonation.
I still cannot find the Sarah Palin SNL appearance video to post here (the YouTube video I earlier posted was removed due to copyright issues, my apologies).
I finally have it. Watch Sarah Palin's first appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' (SNL 10/18) on the following video. Better be quick for YouTube may immediately remove it again due to copyright claims. Enjoy!
Well, Sarah Palin didn't actually do a major skit on 'Saturday Night Live' (it was still Tina Fey who did the presscon sketch) but she did appear in the opening as herself with SNL big boss Lorne Michaels. Mark Wahlberg also appeared briefly with Palin then Alec Baldwin entered the scene mistaking the real Palin as Tina Fey. He pleaded with Michaels not to let the comedian go onstage with the governor.
"This is the most important election in our nation's history and you want her, our Tina, to go out there and stand with that horrible woman?" Baldwin said. When Michaels cut in and introduced him to the real Palin standing next to him, Baldwin feigned embarrassment and replied, "I see. Forgive me. I feel I must say this: You are way hotter in person." Palin then got even by saying, "Thank you, and I must say, your brother Stephen is my favorite Baldwin brother."
Sarah Palin then walked into the Tina Fey-as-Palin press conference, walked to the podium (sending Tina Fey running) and opened the show. "No, I'm not going to take any of your questions, but I do wanted to take this opportunity to say, `Live from New York, it's Saturday Night.'"
Later, Palin came on stage during the Weekend Update mock news segment and bobbed to the beat as cast member Amy Poehler performed a rap song the Alaska governor decided was too hardcore for her to perform personally.Sarah Palin on 'Saturday Night Live' (SNL 10/18) video
