Amid rumors that there is a new handheld console coming out of the Nintendo labs, a new version of the ever-famous gaming gadget has emerged. At a press conference held recently, the new Nintendo DSi has been launched. For serious gamers expecting an all new gadget, this was a bit disappointing. But for others just looking for added features to the already formidable Nintendo DS line, this is exciting news.

On the hardware side, the new Nintendo DSi is a bit thinner than its predecessor, and now sports a slightly bigger screen at 3.25 inches (17% bigger than the Nintendo DS Lite). As for the rumored additions, the new gadget has been equipped with "audio enhancements" and a 0.3 megapixel (640 x 480)camera. The "audio enhancements" were not explained in detail but a rough guess is that MP3s can now be played on the Nintendo DSi. We'll just have to wait for
further confirmation on this.

Also, according to Kotaku, "the DSi also features an SD memory card slot, making it possible to take pictures with the DSi and then view them on the Nintendo Wii. The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi." Further, there will be a DSi Shop where DSiWare can be purchased.

The Nintendo DSi will be released in Japan on November 1. It will reportedly retail for ￥18,900 (USD$180), and will be available in two colors, white and black. No definite date about its release in other markets has been announced other than the fact that it will be available "next year."
