Credit this to the wizards at Apple for their policy of not pre-releasing information about their products and product upgrades, plus of course their ever-secure handling handling of such information to protect product announcements. As always, mere mortals like us addicted to tech news and crazy about Steve Job's gadgets have no recourse but to resort to rumors and lap up every bit of news (predictions) and guesses.

What will Apple come up with three days from now? Well, they've already announced that it will be about laptops, but still nothing specific. One of the most persistent rumors going around is about Macbook and Blu Ray technology. Rumors of Blu-Ray coming to the Apple's prized laptop stretch back to as early as 2006, but especially picked up steam after the "death" of HD-DVD. With the MacBook line desperately in need of a refresh, this could very well be an interesting
point of interest. Add to this another juicy Kevin Rose inside info and it's enough for tech-hungry geeks to conclude that indeed Blu-Ray is coming to the Macbook.

If you can recall, Kevin made a similar prediction about the iPod through his blog just days before the previous Apple event and was proven to be right, so many are inclined to believe the the Digg honcho is right again this time. Indeed, with so many connections in the industry, who are we to doubt him? But Rose was reportedly quick to qualify his prediction by saying that his source for the Blue-Ray rumor was not nearly as good as his source for the iPod nano and iTunes updates. Well, we'll soon find out, won't we?

Another persistent rumor is about the new Macbook price. According to pulse2.com, "Duncan Riley predicts that there will be a new line of MacBooks retailing at about $800. Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster predicts that the new line of MacBooks will retail for about $899-$999." This, more or less, jives with BoingBoing's own prediction. Based on the proportion of the Apple logo on a MacBook cover and using it on the teaser page on Apple's Web site, BoingBoing suggests that the new laptop is a 13.3-incher. With an event timed just before the holiday shopping season, and with almost every major laptop maker coming out with smaller, cheaper versions of its products, these speculations may be right.
