I just finished watching this week's edition, the 7th leg/episodes, of the Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) and it was exciting! The start of the leg was in last week's pit stop, Stanley Bay in
Hong Kong, and ended in Macau.
Geoff and Tisha made two great tactical moves this episode, decisions that helped them jump up in the standings. First, while waiting for the next ferry to leave for Macau with the other teams, Geoff noted that there's another ferry leaving five minutes earlier albeit already fully booked. They then convinced two passengers to trade tickets with them in exchange for some amount of money (undisclosed). The results, they jumped ahead of the others into second place - great move for it turned out to be quite significant with the 'Yield' ahead. They chose to 'Yield' Henry and Bernie, a good choice if I may say so. Though I'm not a very big fan of 'Yields' in the Amazing Race, I agree with Geoff and Tisha on this one. Henry and Bernie have been on their case ever since a few episodes back and, as Tisha said, if the shoe was on the other foot, Henry and Bernie would surely 'Yield' them. In fact, Sam and Vince agreed with their decision, giving Tish high fives for it. It was a tactical move, nothing personal. But apparently, Henry took it veeeery personally. He even drew horns and stuff on Geoff and Tisha's photos - a very juvenile gesture. He was bitter to the end. But I'm sure if they yielded Geoff and Tish he'd be gloating no end.
The climb to the mast of the Macau Tower was scary. Moreover, it was physically taxing because they had to climb a ladder with a height equivalent to 16 storeys. Am I right on this one? I heard one of the racers say (I forgot who) they got off the elevator on the 61st floor and climbed to the 77th. Wow, that is one task that I cannot do coming from someone suffering from severe acrophobia. My knees would have shaken endlessly just standing on the 61st floor!Another good move of Geoff and Tisha was to choose the Lion Dance instead of the casino in the detour. A task is always better than a game of chance. If I were in their place I would have chosen the same. You'll never know what Lady Luck has in store for you and its easy to do something that you have total control of. I was surprised all the other teams chose to play blackjack.
If there was a "who's got an eye for the ladies" comic relief last week, there were two such hilarious incidents this week as well. At the casino, Sam and Vince naughtily switched Henry and Bernie's name so that the former would be assigned to wear the gown instead of the suit! Ha ha ha. This prank clearly implies what the other teams think of Henry (come to think of it, he does seem to be too bitchy for comfort at times). When it came to AD and Fuzzie, I had a good laugh at their reactions when they saw the sexy gowns they were assigned to wear. In fact, I was cracking up for a good five minutes or so after watching them having a hard time putting the dresses on. They even had trouble with the zippers! And when AD asked to be zipped up, Fuzzie said, "I never thought I'd hear that from you," or something to that effect. But the best thing was seeing Fuzzie wobbling along the corridor in high heels! That was hilarious! Ha ha.
Ida and Tania came in last again but, surprise, surprise, it was another NEL (non-elimination leg). This probably is a result of the first four elimination episodes, plus Mai and Oliver's quitting in the fifth. Now they had to cram all the NELs as the series is in its final phase.
I hope Ida and Tania catch up next week. I don't want them eliminated. They have good energy and such a positive outlook always (same goes for Sam and Vince). I hope another team gets eliminated, probably ________ and ________ ? Guess who I want eliminated.
The next leg may take them to India. That's what I've been reading in spoilers through the forums. Until then, let's keep our fingers crossed.
Winners - Geoff and Tisha, followed by Sam and Vince, AD and Fuzzie, Henry and Bernie, and Ida and Tania.
PS. I didn't proofread any of the things I wrote above so please bear with the errors. I'm sleepy.
