First came the rumors of a new Apple iPod Nano design to come out any time this month, then came the leaked photo of the actual iPod Nano to be introduced and now come more rumors about the introduction of iTunes 8 to be launched simultaneously with the unveiling of the new Nano. Hmm, rumors like these are to good to be true sometimes and I normally don't pay much attention to them. But not this time, because the source is highly credible. They all came from Kevin Rose, Digg founder. With his stature in the tech community, news like these are bound to reach him earlier than anybody else and he has proven to be unselfish enough to share it with the rest of the tech news hungry world. Didn't he "predict" the introduction of the $200 iPhone too?
According to Kevin Rose, a new source has come forward with the following information on the launch of the iTunes 8:What's new in iTunes 8
iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don't already have.
With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums visually with the new Grid view; download your favorite TV shows in HD quality from the iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation), and iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer.
I'm a little curious about this Genius. What does music "that go great together" mean? Will they be categorized according to genre, artists or even tempo? Oe will this these categories be user-defined (quite tedious, if you ask me)? Hmm.
As for the new iPod Nano itself, here are the some of its features together with the leaked photo of the new gadget:Revamp of entire iPod line.
Small cosmetic changes to Touch, Nano to see significant redesign (see pic below).
iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
iPod touch 2.1 software, iPhone to get update very soon after.
All of this coming in the next 2-3 weeks.
The pricing change is a bit expected after the introduction of the $199 iPhone 3G. After all, who would buy a pricey iPod if you can get the iPhone at a cheaper price? News of an iPhone update is a surprise, though, since the 3G version has just been released. Some countries haven't even received their new Phone 3G yet. But then, with the biggest iPhone markets already enjoying the new gadget for the past two months, an update may well be on the way.
Kevin Rose summarizes all of these rumors / leaks in the following video:new iPod Nano design & features / iTunes 8 release rumors
We'll see how all of these rumors unfold in the coming weeks. But, as I said earlier, if it came from Kevin rose, it's probably true.
