Furious SIM/FuriouSIM phone unlocker: for iPhone 3G too?

Is a locked mobile phone becoming a thing of the past? Is unlocking a phone as easy as inserting a coded SIM card available to everybody and anybody on cyberspace? Well. that's the claim of the makers of Furious SIM or FuriouSIM, the revolutionary plug and play device that unlocks any mobile phone in a snap.

According to an article on Reuters, the FuriouSIM is the first Do-It-Yourself plug and play card on the market to allow mobile callers to unlock mobile phones without risking irreparable damage. It's as easy as placing your SIM card on the Furious SIM / FuriouSIM and inserting it on your mobile phone. Immediately, the technology will decode and unlock your phone! With the FuriouSIM, callers can use their personal SIM card to bypass the locking mechanism in any mobile phone, and because the FuriouSim doesn't change anything inside the phone there's no risk of damaging or voiding it.

A quick check of their website reveals that the Furios Sim/FuriouSIM is avaible for $45. Moreover, you will also need to by some of the other accessories like a Furious UP USB cable. This lets you update applications as they are developed, keeping keeping FuriouSIM cards compatible with future phone models and preventing the technology from becoming obsolete. You will also need a puncher, or what they call Furious Cut. this punches just the right hole on you SIM card so that it can be attached to the FuriouSIM / Furious SIM card. All in all, the package costs around $57. Pretty expensive, I think, for just one use. But then, one might try to open an phone unlocking business to recover his investment. He he.

I have yet to read actual testimonies that these things really work, and if they won't cause any damage to the phone's firmware. But there are several Furious SIM / FuriouSIM unlock videos on Youtube demonstrating how the gadget works with various phone models. I have posted some below.

There are also rumors that it works on the newly-released iPhone 3G, or even on the Google iPhone. Though this is yet to be confirmed, such news is very encouraging to many prospective cellphone buyers who don't want to be stuck with their unit's exclusive carriers, like myself. He he. I guess we'll have to keep a close watch on this angle.

Update: FuriouSIM has just introduced a new SIM especially for the iPhone 3G! The new F3G SIM is especially designed to fit in an iPhone 3G without the need to cut your SIM card! But listen to this, it costs a whopping $46! I almost fainted. Too expensive!

I don't know about you, but I'll just have to wait a little longer to erase my doubts on this gadget, and for the price to go down as well.
