Charice Pempengco-Celine Dion duet (video): awesome!

Dreams do come true. Charice Pempengco is a testament to this, for not only has she realized a longtime dream to meet her idol, Celine Dion, she was also given the opportunity to do a duet with the singing superstar. It happened recently in Madison Square Garden in New York at the concert of Celine, part of her Taking Chances World Tour. After capturing the hearts of millions of her country men with that powerful voice, being adored in Korea and discovered by Ellen DeGeneres through YouTube, guesting in Oprah and mentored by no less than David Foster, singing with Andrea Bocelli and featured by Oprah for a second time, Charice Pempengco takes another step closer to realizing her dream of stardom with her Celine Dion duet.

Celine Dion said she has a voice that can "blow the roof off of Madison Square Garden" and that's what almost happened, not only due to Charice Pempengco's singing but also to the thunderous applause from the capacity crowd wowed by this young Filipina's talent. They kept on clapping and cheering every time Charice belted out the high notes of Celine's 'Because You Loved Me', with Celine Dion graciously taking a step back each time to give the young singer the spotlight - a very admirable gesture by the superstar.

It was obvious the audience loved her. The ovation throughout their duet proves this. Many may have seen her previous performances on TV (Ellen, Oprah), or seen her in David Foster's Las Vegas concert a few months back, or watched the many videos of her posted on YouTube and thousands of blogs like this one and knew what to expect from the Filipina belter. And if it was their first time to see and hear Charice Pempengco, there is no doubt they were wowed by the young girl.

What's next for Charice Pempengco? There are rumors that an album is in the works, care of David Foster. I hope this is true for no matter how good a singer you are, stardom will be unattainable without songs you can call your own, originals. Charice can't sing covers forever. That immense talent will just go to waste singing other people's songs.
