(Update: Are Sam & Vince this season's winners? See story below) Looking for Amazing Race Asia 3 results / episode recaps? This is the page to find it. The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) premiered today, heralding an eight (?) week run of fun and adventure for the ten teams from all over Asia. It wasn't the most exciting season premier I've seen but I guess the coming episodes will be better as we start to root for our favorites. As of now, aside from the teams representing our respective countries, we are still trying to get to know the participants. As the race progresses and we'll see more of what we like (and dislike about
them), the excitement will hopefully pick up.

This page will carry the results and episode recaps of the different legs as they unfold in the coming weeks. Hopefully, I can also provide some personal insights on the race and give some predictions based on the teams' weekly performances. So do come back weekly (at least) to check on this page.

Not only because of my vested interest in countrymen Geoff and Tisha, but because the lead changed hands several times - a testament to the skill and determination of all three teams remaining and how equally capable they are of winning. Even if you started watching this final episode with a clear prediction of who would win (as I did), that would have been erased as the three teams caught up with each other and thereby negated any advantage, or disadvantage, they had. Kudos to Sam and Vince, Geoff and Tisha, and Ida and Tania!

The finale started off at Wadi Tanuf, the previous pit stop and site of the infamous zip line challenge that they did. From there they were instructed to go to the Muscat Governorate for their next clue. Ida and Tania left first, followed by Geoff and Tisha

As such, I was expecting an episode filled with one physically demanding task after another wherein each team's physical endurance and mental fortitude will be tested. I was disappointed. This second to the last leg was just a series of clues that others in the forums described as "boring". Not me though. Despite the obvious absence of difficult challenges, I was a nervous wreck while watching it because my favorite team, Geoff and Tisha from the Philippines wasn't doing well. In fact, they sucked in the 90% of the tasks in this leg. It's a good thing a surprising twist was added in the end, a task that jolted some excitement to this episode and, at the same time, allowed Geoff and Tish to recover.

Teams first set off to find a clue in India's Bhaja Caves. Leaving very early in the morning (Sam and Vince left at a few minutes after midnight) they found... CONTINUE

From their last pit stop in Cochin, India, teams were asked to go to Pune, India via a plane ride to Mumbai. A good choice of taxi for Ida and Tania proved vital as they emerged on top en route to Pune, which is a good three-hour drive. Once in Pune, Ida and Tania's cab driver easily located their destination, the Nehru Stadium, where the racers were to be challenged to a game of cricket. Though Ida and Tania were still ahead after this task even if they failed to complete the task and received a ten minute penalty, Sam and Vince made up ground by successfully doing the task. Geoff and Tisha likewise failed, and they were .... continue

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Eighth Leg/Episode 8 Results

Winners - Geoff and Tisha, followed by AD and Fuzzie, Ida and Tania, Sam and Vince, and Henry and Bernie. (Ida and Tania actually finished second but because of their 30-minute penalty, they landed in third.)

The lead changed hand several times during this leg, until the pit stop, I wasn't sure who was going to finish first. Geoff and Tisha made the first bungee jump (Tisha was obviously scared of heights but pure determination pushed her to go through with it). As a result, they were awarded a helicopter ride to Hong Kong compared the usual ferry the others had to take. What was surprising to me was Henry pushing his sister Bernie to do the jump instead of himself. Bernie was reluctant but she couldn't say no to Henry (seems older brother is more afraid of heights that she is).

The pivotal part of this race was the plane ride from Hong Kong to Cochin, India. Geoof and Tisha, by virtue of their mini fast-forward were able to take an early flight to Cochin via Singapore. Sam and Vince (2nd) and Henry and Bernie (4th) opted to take another flight via Singapore to Bombay (no more flight to Cochin available, as I understand it) and take a connecting flight to their ultimate destination, Cochin. AD and Fuzzie (3rd) and Ida and Tania (5th), on the other hand, were able to get a shorter direct flight to Bombay, with the same connecting flight to Cochin. However, since the group of Sam took a longer route, they missed their connecting flight in Bombay and had to wait for a domestic flight to Cochin. As a result, the other teams were way ahead of them (six hours I think).

The tasks in India included going to a Hindu temple, washing an elephant and a detour - a choice between carrying 6 large blue marlins from the beach to a restaurant, or filling an intricate pattern with colored rice. Geoff and Tish chose the fish and I must say I admired Tish for doing it. First, it was a smelly task with water and fish drippings drenching the racers, and second, it was a heavy load (20 kgs. each, I think). I never imagined that I would see Tisha Silang, former beauty queen, carry 20kgs of smelly fish on her back, three times! And Natalie Glebova was complaining about ruining her nails at an earlier episode! Ha! Sam and Vince also made up ground with this task, with Vince carrying two fish at a time instead of one thus shortening their task to two trips instead of three. This spelled the difference between their fourth place finish and elimination.

Henry and Bernie arrived last at the pit stop and were eliminated. A sad end to the erstwhile front runners of the race whose determination, teamwork and physical strength easily made them the early favorites. The yield in the previous leg must have done something to their psyche, changed their focus on the race. But its all fine with me because they're my least favorite among the remaining racers.

Ida and Tania did very well to recover. Good for them. I hope they make it to the top three, together with Geoff and Tisha and Sam and Vince. With the determination I saw in Sam and Vince in this race, I am now more inclined to believe that they really won this season.

Postscript: After watching a replay of this episode, I felt sorry for Henry and Bernie (more so for Bernie). They were the strongest team in the race and it's sad to see them eliminated just because of a wrong choice of flight after consistently doing well in the past seven legs.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Seventh Leg/Episode 7 Results

I just finished watching this week's edition, the 7th leg/episodes, of the Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) and it was exciting! The start of the leg was in last week's pit stop, Stanley Bay in
Hong Kong, and ended in Macau.

Geoff and Tisha made two great tactical moves this episode, decisions that helped them jump up in the standings. First, while waiting for the next ferry to leave for Macau with the other teams, Geoff noted that there's another ferry leaving five minutes earlier albeit already fully booked. They then convinced two passengers to trade tickets with them in exchange for some amount of money (undisclosed). The results, they jumped ahead of the others into second place - great move for it turned out to be quite significant with the 'Yield' ahead. They chose to 'Yield' Henry

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Sixth Leg/Episode 6 Results

A non-elimination leg at last! But you know what I think? I think the previous leg was a non-elim episode too but since Mai and Oliver quit the race they had to eliminate them.

This was the easiest leg so far. Everything was quite easy, no strenuous physical task at all. It was all a series of clues around Hongkong the hardest of which was the fish cleaning (if you happen to choose it) and finding the matching bag. I guess the racers deserve a break from all the lifting, pushing, pulling and other physical challenges that they've been doing the past five weeks. He he. And this means the next episode will again be filled with back breaking tasks!

Winners - Sam and Vince, followed by Henry and Bernie, Geoff and Tisha, AD and Fuzzie, and Ida and Tania.

BTW, what's with AD and Fuzzie's reaction to "who's got an eye for the ladies?". Are they gay? Just asking.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Fifth Leg/Episode 5 Results

The key factor for this leg was patience. The tasks weren't as physically taxing as in the past episodes but they would definitely test your patience.

Winners - Vince and Sam, followed by Henry and Bernie, AD and Fuzzie, Geoff and Tisha, Ida and Tania, and lastly, Mai and Oliver.

Another elimination leg! My, this is surprising. I don't watching any edition of The Amazing Race where the first five episodes were elimination legs. This definitely is a first (as far as I can recall).

I'm really starting to admire the team up of Ida and Tania. In the previous episode, they were so cohesive, and even though their patience was tested in this leg, they didn't give up. Geoff and Tisha, on the other hand, were similarly tested in this race. This leg revealed a weakness of this team though - reading maps and finding directions. They almost didn't make in the previous leg because of this too.

It was karma that doomed Mai and Oliver. Remember how they tricked the others into working together the last time then abruptly left when they found the miniature clue? That unfair play came back to haunt them and cost them this race. They failed miserably in this leg.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Fourth Leg/Episode 4 Results

Winners - Ida and Tania, followed by Vince and Sam, Mai and Oliver, Henry and Bernie, AD and Fuzzie, Geoff and Tisha.

The lead changed hand several times during this leg but it was the all-female team of Ida and Tania that prevailed. They're really getting pretty good at it, and their teamwork is amazing - give and take. One disappointing point is this leg was the team of Mai and Oliver. After suggesting to the other teams that they work together to find the clue in the miniature museum, they turned their back on this agreement when they found the clue. I know this is a race and one has to have tactics to win, but fair play should still be practiced. Very disappointing. I was actually cheering when Mai and Oliver were overtaken by Ida and Tania later in the race. That served them right, karma!

The final challenge involved eating a bowl of Taiwan's native delicacy, stinky tofu! Having lived in Hong Kong for the most part of my early life, I am familiar with the dish and all I can say is that I admire the racers for finishing the whole bowl.

Niroo and Kapil gave up too easily. They shouldn't have let their frustration get to them early in the race when they had car trouble. But what I am more interested in right now is what will happen in the next race after the teaser they showed. Looks like Geoff and Tisha will have a big fight (with threats of a break up). Alan was also shown knocking on one of the cars. I wonder what that means?

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Third Leg/Episode 3 Results

Winners - Henry and Bernie, followed by the following: Vince and Sam, Ida and Tania, AD and Fuzzie, Geoff and Tisha, Mai and Oliver, Niroo and Kapil, and Pailin and Natalie.

Another grueling leg. After a 1,000-kilometer bus ride to the City of Hue, the teams were tasked to replace the tires and change the engine oil of their choice of jeep, the vehicle that they would use for the most part of this leg. It was a physically demanding task, especially after an almost 24-hour bus ride. The women struggled with replacing the tires, and Natalie started showing signs she was giving up.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3) Second Leg/Episode 2 Results

Winners - Henry and Bernie, followed by the following: AD and Fuzzie, Vince and Sam, Niroo and Kapil, Geoff and Tisha, Ida and Tania, Pailin and Natalie, Mai and Oliver, and Isaac and William.

This was probably the toughest leg I have seen in the Amazing Race series so far, both in the American and Asian version. When Allan said this season would be hell, I think he really meant it. The tasks were so phyisically taxing. Add to that the 48 hours of almost no rest and food to complete this leg and you'll inderstand why all the racers were left panting and on the verge of giving up.

My predictions from last episode were both right and wrong: Henry and Bernie are tough to beat because of their fitness, teamwork and focus. I was wrong, however, on my observations on AD & Fuzzie and Niroo & Kapil. They finished second and third respectively after I predicted that they were the weakest teams. Just goes to show that anything can happen.

I was a bit disappointed with Geoff and Tisha, not because they finished fifth but because of Geoff's attitude. He was so arrogant today! While it may be understandable that different people handle stress differently, his arrogance was still unacceptable.

Lady luck wasn't smiling on them when they picked the wrong cab and got stuck with a driver who didn't know where the final pit stop was. Were it not for this, they would have finished at around fifth or sixth place. Just goes to show that the Amazing Race is not all about skill, athleticism and teamwork. Luck plays a big factor too.

It was a very sporting gesture displayed by the teams of Mai & Oliver and Geoff & Tisha. Having worked together to reach the pit stop ahead of the others, they put fair play over and above competition by electing to use rock-paper-scissors to settle the winner. Hope sportsmanship will reign until the end of the race.
