The key elements for this episode were patience and composure. Though some challenges were physically taxing - the tire replacement and the rickshaw ride, not to mention the loooong bus ride - this leg showcased the more than the racers' brawn. In the end, one gave up and two (or three?) others were hinting of a similar fate.

Winners - Henry and Bernie, followed by the following: Vince and Sam, Ida and Tania, AD and Fuzzie, Geoff and Tisha, Mai and Oliver, Niroo and Kapil, and Pailin and Natalie.

Another grueling leg. After a 1,000-kilometer bus ride to the City of Hue, the teams were tasked to replace the tires and change the engine oil of their choice of jeep, the vehicle that they would use for the most part of this leg. It was a physically demanding task, especially after an almost 24-hour bus ride. The women struggled with replacing the tires, and Natalie started showing signs she was giving up.

Henry and Bernie lived up to their top billing in my book by winning this leg despite suffering from different setbacks - their bus suffered a flat tire, their jeep continually broke down and their rickshaw toppled over in the last part of the race. But true grit and physical fitness carried them through.

But the big story in this leg wasn't their win but the toll the race seems to be having on the contestants. It's only the third leg but some racers seemed to be on the verge of giving up. Natalie actually did, failing to finish the road block and incurring a four-hour penalty for their team, to the dismay of her partner Pailin. Natalie has been complaining a lot ever since the second leg and it was a clear indication that she was losing the mental, if not the physical, battle. Too bad for Pailin.

Fuzzie was hinting that she was on the verge of giving up as well, and Vince (or was it Sam?) was also showing signs of strain and frustration. Geoff, on the other hand, ever the intense, impatient and temperamental competitor that he is, hadn't won friends yet after the arrogance he showed last week. Ida (or was it Tania?) was very vocal about how she feels about Geoff, and Bernie as well. Was there any other confrontation among these teams for them to hate Geoff so much? The only thing I remember is the chicken basket thing last week with Ida and Tania. I don't remember any other friction with the other teams. Hopefully, there will be an attitude turnaround for Geoff starting next week after softening up after the pit stop.

I still can't get over my disappointment with Natalie. Though I was not rooting for their team, the fact that she gave up this early in the race is a letdown. Especially after seeing how Pailin, her partner, tries her hardest at every challenge. To me, Natalie was just plain bratty. She shouldn't have joined the race if she was going to make a fuss about being dirty, the long bus ride or ruining her nails! Ha!

I wonder what's in store for next week? Will someone give up as well? i read in the forums/spoilers that a racer would be hospitalized. I wonder who it'll be. Also, it has been three consecutive elimination legs so far so I'm guessing the next one will be a non-elimination one - probably a two-part episode. Hmm, can't wait!
