Paula Abdul just got some backup in the American Idol judging panel. Or is it a replacement? Hmm.
It's not clear whether or not she's happy about it (some reports says she doesn't like the idea at all), but expect new " American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi to give the ladies a louder (and more sober) voice when the singing competition returns to Fox in January.
DioGuardi will sit alongside Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson at the judges’ table and use her background as an award-winning songwriter and producer to praise or critique the wannabe hopefuls throughout the eighth season of the competition, which begins in January.
Kara DioGuardi, a Grammy-winning producer-songwriter, has written top 40 hits for pop stars including Kelly Clarkson and the Pussycat Dolls. And although her name might not be as familiar as the prolific Diane Warren and David Foster, artists such as Celine Dion and
Gwen Stefani have relied on her songs for years. With credentials like this, let's hope she adds some substance to the judging process on American Idol nest season. Some of us had had enough of the "Paulaisms" and the "Check it out, Dawg"! We need to hear some credible critique this time!
BTW, Pop Idol, the since-canceled British reality competition American Idol was based on, featured four judges (one of whom was Cowell) during both its seasons, which aired in 2002 and 2003. Kara DioGuardi's addition represents the completion of a similar plan for American Idol, according to the show's producers.
