I have always been a fan of The Amazing Race, especially the original American editions, and I don't miss it on TV. Though some of my friends prefer Survivor, Fear Factor or any of the other reality shows currently vying for our attention on television, The Amazing Race is my top favorite. Not only does it have the thrill of competition and the drama of reality TV, it is also a travelogue of sorts taking me to many exotic and interesting places around the globe I want to visit someday. The Amazing Race Asia (TARA) is no different. Though centered mostly on venues around the region, it
nevertheless gives me a chance to see (albeit too brief sometimes) the many sights in my neighboring countries. With so many Asians too focused on travel to the America or Europe, this show is a welcome eye opener that there are equally interesting places not too far from our shores.

This year's batch of adventurous racers is again a mix of celebrities and unknowns, Asians and expats out to outdo each other with their own combination of wit, cunning skill and brawn - the formula that has worked for many couples in the past seasons.

1. Natalie & Pailin from Thailand - 25 year old Pailin Rungratanasunthorn was the first runner up in 2006 Miss Thailand Universe and represented her country as Miss Thailand Earth 2006 as well. Natalie Glebova, on the other hand, was Miss Universe 2005, a Russian Canadian now residing in Bangkok and married to Thai tennis ace Paradorn Srichapan.

2. Vince & Samuel from Hong Kong - Vince Matthew Chung is a former primary school teacher turned full time comedian cum host, often performing and hosting at The Take-Out Comedy Club Hong Kong, and his best bud Samuel Wu, is a university lecturer who ranks as one of the top players on the online word game, Prolific. They hope their combination will be enough to win The Amazing Race Asia 3.

3. Neena & Amit from India - Neena Rai, 24, is a former flight stewardess and hopes that the TV exposure of being on The Amazing Race Asia will boost her modeling and art career. Amit Rai, on the other hand, who credits Neena for getting him hooked on the The Amazing Race Asia (TARA) and intends to play the role of the underdog, hope to make Indians everywhere proud of his achievements, if they win.

4. Tisha & Geoff from the Philippines - Tisha Silang was Miss Philippines in 1998 until a technicality due to her Canadian citizenship forced her to relinquish her crown. Joining her as the lone Filipino pair in The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA3) is her boyfriend of three years Geoff Rodriguez, a model and one-time actor.

5. Niroo & Kapil from India - Niroo and Kapil Asrani are out to prove that a father and son team up works best. Kapil is looking to keep cool under pressure. His strengths, he says, is to enjoy even a stressful situation, depend on his communication skills and rely the ability to think on his feet. As for Niroo, he hopes his engineering background, analytical skills and sense of direction will get them through.

6. William & Isaac from South Korea - William and Isaac Hong are brothers and they are both sports commentators and football agents for professional players in the Korean K-League. William and Isaac are definitely looking at bringing their A-game to The Amazing Race Asia.

7. Ida & Tania from Malaysia - Ida Nerina is a famous, homegrown Malaysian actress with 16 movies under her belt, while Tania Khan is a property developer. One thing they both hope to achieve in The Amazing Race Asia 3, other than taking home the top prize, is the chance to see the world from a new perspective.

8. Mai & Oliver from Thailand - Visa Sarasas, or Mai for short, is an actress and model while her friend Oliver Faivre is a 26 year old student and model as well.

9. Henry & Bernie from Malaysia - Bernie Chan is famous around Asia because of another reality TV show. She the host of Project Runway Malaysia. An accomplished chef and restaurant owner as well, she is teaming up with her brother Henry in the hope of getting the top prize in The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3).

10. AD & Fuzzie from Singapore - Having met in school 15 years ago, Fuzzie Sirajudin was nothing that A.D. Chan, 34, now a freelance writer-director for TV and T-shirt designer, saw as a potential friend. But they've hit it off since then and are now entered in The Amazing Race Asia 3. Their goal in joining the race isn't about the fame or money, but the fun they think they would be enjoying in the process.

After reading all of the above profiles, who do think will win? Though I am hoping for a Filipino victory, the father and son team up from India and the Korean brothers look strong. However, as past seasons have shown, team strength based on potential and actual competition performance are two very different things. Who knows, an all-female team up may win TARA again. Let's just start tuning in when the The Amazing Race Asia 3 premieres to find out.
