As promotion for the upcoming Batman sequel 'The Dark Knight' continues, marketing for the movie hit New York's Woolworth building this week -- literally. The Bat Signal was projected onto the 57-story skyscraper, which is one of the oldest and most famous skyscrapers in New York City.
Also, a massive billboard featuring Heath Ledger as the Joker has also been put up on Houston Street in New York to promote the movie -- that's just two blocks from Ledger's apartment, where he died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January.
Finally, demand for tickets to 'The Dark Knight' has been so high that many theaters are adding 6 a.m. opening-day showings after midnight and 3 AM screenings sold out.
"The Dark Knight is our fastest selling film in wide release this year," says the VP of one outlet. "It trumps Iron Man, Sex and the City, Indiana Jones and WALL-E at the same point in their sales cycles, and it's even outpacing last year's Spider-Man 3 and Pirates."
So far, the summer has been all about the $300+ million-grossing 'Iron Man', but once 'The Dark Knight' is out on July 18, there's no doubt it will be the movie to beat.
