american idol results: Jason Castro is out, finally!

With a disastrous performance last night, America has decided (and wisely this time) to follow Simon Cowell's advice to send Jason Castro packing and out of American Idol.

It is no secret that I am no fan of Jason. I have written many posts in the past about American Idol and he was always mentioned in them, often in the negative. The past weeks were especially harsh because, in my opinion, he was just staying in the competition on pure luck and fan adulation, disregarding dismal performances week after week. I know this is a popularity contest more than anything else but we should also consider talent and performance. After all, that is the reason why they sing every week, isn't it? I wonder how he'll do in the American Idol tour?

Well, Jason Castro's luck has finally run out. But for a while there I thought this week's results would be a shocker considering the history of top four results. Remember season 1 front runner Tamyra Gray and season 5 odds-on favorite Chris Daughtry? I was bracing myself for another one this year but luckily it turned out to be a welcome surprise. And Syesha's inclusion in the top three made it even sweeter. I am not exactly a fan but I think she has worked very hard to hurdle one bottom three finish week after week. And she's certainly more deserving than Jason Castro (though I would have preferred Michael Johns or Carly Smithson in the top three). In fact, Syesha's performance last night was, to me, her strongest so far.

It looks like it's going to be a final between the two Davids, Archuleta and Cook. I wonder how the public will vote. No doubt David Archuleta's teenage fans will come out in full force, but how will the followers of the eliminated finalists vote? Will they shift their loyalty to David Cook, or not vote at all? Hmm, let's wait and see. That's still more than two weeks away after all. Who knows, Syesha might just spoil the party and land in the finals?
