Brooke White said goodbye to her American Idol dream tonight. After a lackluster performance of two Neil Diamond favorites, especially of her first choice "I'm a Believer", the voters decided it was time to go.

Simon was right. It was a weird night at American Idol, and not just because of Paula. The performances of the top five finalists were definitely sub par, except for two of course. The two Davids, Cook and Archuleta, showed us why they are the favorites to land in the finals.

David Cook wowed me again. His second Neil Diamond song of the night was something many viewers look forward to every week, a different arrangement of an old song
performed beautifully. The vocals were not excellent, that's Archuleta territory, but it's the total performance that made the whole number click. David Archuleta, on the other hand, displayed his usual excellent vocals, solid performance. But somehow, there was no wow factor for me. There was nothing new, nothing exciting. Sure he looked cute on stage (according to my niece and millions of other teenagers out there), but that's not what I'm looking for.

The performances other three finalists, namely Syesha Mercado, Brooke White and Jason Castro, were the other weird things Simon was referring to. Jason, for one, bombed again. And his second song choice of the night, "September Morn", was definitely wrong. The Neil Diamond classic was more suitable for someone with a big voice, something Jason Castro definitely did not have.

Syeha performed slightly better, though it did not create sparks for me. The vocals were good but the overall performance was, to quote Simon, "forgettable". Hope she performs better next week because I definitely prefer her over Jason Castro to land in the top three.
