Marquez will have to wait for his turn. That's seems to be what Manny Pacquiao is saying because he has decided to take on David Diaz, another southpaw who is currently the WBC lightweight champion. Though a return match with Marquez would be more financially rewarding than facing Diaz, Manny Pacquiao seems bent chasing a fourth world title in four different weight divisions with a victory in the Pacquiao-Diaz fight.
The March 15 Marquez-Pacquiao 12-rounder with the Mexican’s crown at stake ended in a split decision victory for the Filipino sensation, putting more questions than answers as to who will join the short list as the best fighter in the world pound-for-pound. Due to this, Marquez is dying to meet Pacquiao again, with the Mexican titleholder seemingly willing to sacrifice everything, including his share of the purse. However, Pacquiao would not be swayed. What Manny wants,
Manny gets and not even promoter Bob Arum can dissuade him. It's a Pacquiao-Diaz fight Manny wants and that's what we'll be getting. This will be a different fight for Manny. Throughout his career, Manny Pacquiao mainly had to face right handed opponents. He will have to make some adjustments this time as David Diaz is a fellow left-hander. And some of his fans, including this one, are understandably quite apprehensive about this. How will this affect Manny's fighting style? Will he be able to effectively learn new techniques in time? But Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's coach isn't worried. "I do not anticipate Manny having a problem fighting a southpaw. Manny will have to make adjustments," he said.
Pacquiao was more perceptive, pointing out that both he and Diaz will be making adjustments in their fighting styles since both are southpaws. "And both of us are southpaws. And it will be a good fight because this is the third time for me to fight a southpaw. I think it’s hard for both of us. But I will try to make people happy. It is a big honor for my country. I will do my best."
Anyway, the fight is looking more exciting everyday with both camps adding more hype with every comment they make. Expect more fireworks as the Pacquiao-Diaz fight nears. For now, let us just wait as they each prepare for an expected grueling match.
