Welcome!

a new custom domain: just like starting over (sort of)

starting block, ready set go, start, race start, jump start,Well, I finally did it! After months of fickle thought, I have swallowed the bitter pill and transferred to my own domain. I would have stayed in blogspot forever, content and happy with the free hosting and user-friendly platform. It’s been more than a year since I discovered blogging and I had no complaints (well, actually there are a few but they're quite insignificant). But then a contact’s remark made me realize that I had to get my own domain. “You have grown, your blog has grown. Time to make it on your own.” Yup, I told myself, time to leave the crib.

I chose to stay with Google (or Googol, Googel, Goggle, Gugle, whatever) and take their offer of a free-hosted site with my own custom domain. For one thing, I know nothing about web hosting
and I am scared to death (paranoid actually) about the possibility losing a year’s work if I somehow bungle the transfer. DNS, CName, registry are terms that are totally foreign to me! On the other hand, transfer to a new domain in Blogger was a no-brainer (just what I needed), with Google handling all the registration and redirection. All I had to do after paying for my domain name was wait. And I’m quite good at that! (If you’re still seeing the blogspot address on your browser, it’s because the redirection is yet to be fully completed.)

The transfer was not an easy decision though. There were some things that I feared losing, stats for one. After all, I have worked hard for those numbers and losing them isn’t that easy to accept. A week after receiving my 40,000 ranking jump in Alexa, I am now back to “no rank”. And from a Technorati authority of 659 (with a rank of 6,490), I am back to a big fat zero. Blog juice is now at 0.3 after a high of 4.7. Hmm, looks like I’m starting all over again.

postscript: I have opted to retain my old Technorati and Alexa widgets on my blog for a few more days, for old times sake. Allow me some more bragging time with these. He he. (Image courtesy of www.punchstock.com)
