Read these names and remember them. These are the names of the medical practitioners involved in the highly controversial Cebu Surgery Scandal as released by the Department of Health through a news conference. These are the doctors and nurses who performed surgery to remove a foreign object (a perfume cannister) from a hapless victim's rectum, all the while laughing and ridiculing him while he lay there heavily sedated. To make matters worse, some
members of the operating staff videotaped the whole procedure without the victim's consent and posted it on YouTube. (You can find the video here.)
Since my blog entry less than a week ago, the case has gone through a mandatory process of investigations to determine if more persons will be included in the list. After all, based on the video, I could see more than ten people in the OR - laughing, shouting, howling annoyingly as if they're watching a freak show! According to the government health agency, there were clinical instructors, interns and trainees who were part of the group but they have yet to be named pending investigation.
The country is waiting for more names to be included in the Hall of Shame in the coming days, so that justice can be served.
