Welcome!

Google is just like Paula Abdul

googel, googl, goggle, gogle, gogel, googal, Google, page rank, Google PR, Google page rank, Hey Paula, are you drunk again?!

I was watching American Idol earlier tonight, eager to catch the remaining five finalists sing songs of Neil Diamond. However, Paula Abdul turned out to be the biggest entertainment of the night! Since there were only five finalists left, each of them had to sing two songs. After the first round of performances, Ryan Seacrest asked the judges for a brief assessment of their performances. Randy Jackson rattled off his comments quickly. When it came to Paula's turn, everybody (this blogger included) held their breath and waited for another blunder. She didn't disappoint.

Starting off with Jason Castro, she made a remark about his voice then quickly segued to a critique of his second song. "The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn't -- it was
missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty." What? What is she taking about, I asked myself. There was only one song, everybody only did one song. It was only the first round! The empty feeling was understandable because there was no second song, yet. Ha ha ha. Randy (or was it Simon?) had to interrupt and remind her of this. "Oh my god, I thought you -- I thought you sang twice!" she said.

That did it. I started laughing my head off with that remark. I didn't even catch what Simon said. It's a good thing they paused for a commercial break, otherwise I would have missed the next performances because I couldn't stop laughing. Oh Paula, you should apply at Comedy Central or MAD TV in American Idol's off season because you're a riot! Really.

Google is just like Paula! It can't make up its mind. Or is it just as confused as the infamous TV host?

A few months ago, this blog was slapped with a big fat zero ranking due to my (I presume) paid posts (on my birthday, no less!). Though I was disappointed, I accepted it. After all, many bloggers have written about the issue before so it was no surprise. Anyway, after transferring to my own domain earlier this month, I was expecting that my page rank would improve. Heck, there's no other way to go but up, is there? He he. But since the page rank updates started two days ago, nothing. My blog's rank is still a 0.

But a comment from my friend itots surprised me. He said that my old url (the blogspot address) just got its PR3 back! A quick check confirmed this. What? I asked myself. If that address has a PR3, then why does my new domain still have a 0? That old address and its backlinks were supposed to have been redirected to the new domain after the transfer, a redirect that Google itself did since it also hosts the new domain! Is Google playing tricks on me or is it just plain stupid?

Update: Oops, I spoke too soon. Three hours after publishing this article, my blog was given a PR3!

Another update: Three hours later, it's back to PR0! I should have known it was too good to be true.
