Have you seen this ad? I’m sure you have, especially the avid Entrecard droppers among us. And the next question is, “Have you been duped by this ad?” Well, if you’re an avid dropper, chances are you have been.
This particular ad has been posted and well-placed in many of the Entrecard member sites I went to yesterday. Posing as an Entrecard widget, many droppers were tricked into clicking it and were thus redirected to its owner’s site. Bingo, instant traffic! I was deceived once or twice, but was more than alert to let it happen a third time. Naturally, I was pissed. I have no objections against good, well-placed ads and marketing strategies, but deception is another thing. It’s a cheap trick! I don’t think its even an Entrecard member. I tried looking for it at the site so that I could make the proper complaint but couldn’t locate it. Grrr! And you know what’s even more annoying? I found the same
ad on my Project Wonderful slot a little later! I quickly canceled it, of course. Then proceeded to ban the advertiser altogether! Ha!
I have seen less of it lately. When I dropped some Entrecards a while ago, I only saw one or two. That’s a good sign. I guess many bloggers feel the same way as I do and canceled this advertiser’s cheap tricks. It’s also a clear message to others who plan on copying this strategy that deception will not succeed.
