Despite a solid performance, voters decided that it was time for Carly Smithson to go. This after a night when both Brooke White and Jason Castro (especially) were eaten up by their Andrew Lloyd Webber song choices.
When I first heard that it was going to Andrew Lloyd Webber night I knew it would be interesting. Webber's songs were created for theater and this favored the big voices in the group, namely Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado and David Archuleta. And I was not disappointed. The three gave outstanding performances, most notable of which (for me)was Syesha's. I think she showed a little more personality with her performance, capturing my
attention the minute she started her number until the end of the song. David Archuleta, as expected, powered through with his exceptional voice and Carly rocked her performance with her song choice "Superstar" from "Jesus Christ, Superstar". Her elimination tonight was therefore disappointing.
I was understandably worried about my current favorite, David Cook. Somehow, I couldn't see him rocking an Andrew Lloyd Webber song. But to my surprise, that's exactly what he did with "Music of the Night" from "the Phantom of the Opera". He was so Daughtry last night!
Based on their performances last night, Jason Castro or Brooke White should have been eliminated. Their performances were relatively awful, especially Castro's. In fact, I was cringing in my seat as I watched his performance of Webber's "Memory". How could the voting public ignored that? Simon was right in his assessment. It was torture! He he. Anyway, hope he gets eliminated next because I think he is highly overrated.
