Well, we saw it coming. The result of the latest American Idol voting was no
surprise for everyone, even for avid Pinoy followers of the show. Ramiele Malubay is out of the competition after receiving the least number of votes.
Does she deserve it? Yes, definitely. And that’s coming from a Pinoy who, at one point, was hoping (and praying) that his compatriot will make it big in the popular talent search. Ramiele had shown so much potential, so much promise at the start of the final round that even odds makers were betting on her to win, even as David Archuleta seemed to have locked the championship that early. She had the talent, the looks, the personality and the x-factor, they said. However, nobody can live on potential alone is such a tough competition. Gradually, Ramiele Malubay’s star power waned as
she gave one uninspired (dismal?) performance week after week. And somehow, voters who have keenly supported her started to give up as well. This is what I think happened, because that is exactly how I felt after watching Ramiele’s star overwhelmed by the performances of her competition. In the end, even her avid (solid) Filipino-American voters must have given up too.
For me, her ouster was just right (though I would have preferred Kristy Lee Cook first). No use extending her stint after what we have seen the past weeks. If she had not been voted out and instead remained purely on the votes of the Fil-Am community, it would have been reminiscent of Sanjaya’s stint last season. And that was not good. Sanjaya’s overstay seemed to have had a negative effect on his supposed career after the show and he is nowhere to be found right now. It’s just right that Ramiele leaves the show at a time when she still has the “respect” of the public. I’m sure her talent will guide her to the right career path. It’s sad but that’s the way it has to be. Good luck Ramiele, you made us proud.
Despite the Archuleta choo-choo train of supporters (mostly young girls) sweeping the American Idol world, my votes are for David Cook. I think he has gradually grown in talent before our very eyes. With creative performances week after week, David Cook has shown us his range and he is gradually peaking. I just hope that he doesn’t end up like Chris Daughtry last year.
