It has been almost two weeks since this scandal hit the country’s internet headlines but there are no signs that it is fading, dying a natural death as some involved parties had hoped. On the contrary, it seems to be gaining strength, much like a typhoon gaining second wind after its opening salvo almost fizzled out. Brian Gorrell’s blog, exposing all the sordid details of his involvement with the now infamous Gucci Gang (they’re in Wikipedia!) and the deceit that followed, is now the toast of the blogging world (and the envy of every blogger) with more than 70,000 hits per day! Imagine that. And the blog is barely 15 days old!
Since spilling the beans more than a week ago, he has written more allegations to the delight of gossip-crazy readers (guilty as charged, your honor). Here are some of it:
• DJ Montano, newspaper columnist and Brian’s former boyfriend whom he accused of duping him of over $70,000, has a ghostwriter. In fact, Brian alleges that he even wrote one of the articles DJ submitted to the Philippine Star as his own!
• After a fight in his hotel room at a plush Makati hotel, DJ allegedly tricked him into going to the gym, purportedly to ransack his room of all his cash and valuables. After which DJ Montano had him arrested on false assault charges with the intention of deporting him to Australia. All of these, alleged Brian, happened with the knowledge and consent of the Gucci Gang.
• Another Philippine Star society columnist, Celine Lopez, self-proclaimed queen of the gang, allegedly has a ghostwriter as well. Brian even wrote that Celine could not possibly have written such articles because she is allegedly coke dependent (not the soft drinks)! In one society affair, he wrote that Celine was so smashed she couldn’t make an award presentation and almost fell off the stage!
• Brian also wrote about a drug dealer who “lives and works at the Embassy”, a popular Manila club. “DJ and Celine keep this drug dealer in business…He is the biggest drug dealer in Manila. He sells to Imelda's grand son.” Hmm, your guess is as good as mine!
There are more, a lot more juice about the likes of Tim, Wendy, Celine, DJ, Tina, Ana and all of their friends we only get to read about in the glossy society pages. Every post seems to contain something new, something more explosive then the previous exposés (sex orgies at the Pen, coke parties at someone’s house). On the other hand, some entries contain so much pain and anguish, like the shame he felt at being dragged by arresting police officers through the lobby of a posh hotel, or how he begged and screamed at the police station, explaining his side of the story, while DJ watched from a distance.
Lately however, I have noticed that his posts are tinged with more hatred and vengeance, not only for the members of the Gucci Gang but for other people and companies associated with them as well. DJ, Celine and the rest work for major firms either a contributing columnists, PR executives or product endorsers. Brian Gorrell now seems to have vented his ire on these firms, calling for a boycott of their products (probably prodded by readers’ comments to do so). In particular, he has skewered the Philippine Star, one of Manila’s leading dailies and home to DJ and Celine’s society columns. Brian has even coined a new name for the paper; calling it the Philippine Rats instead of Star (see pics below). This, understandably, is turning some of his readers off (including this one). He should just stick to his exposé on the people who robbed and deceived him, and stay away from involving other personalities and entities just because they are associated with the Gucci Gang. Stop it Brian. Don’t justify the other camp’s accusation that your blog is just “a pathetic attempt at vengeance by a scorned lover”. Stick to the issues you started with.

I don’t know when this would end, and where it would lead to. All I know is that thousands are following every development of this scandal intently. I can’t blame them. I am hooked myself. And with the other camp still relatively mum on the issue, save for some uncalled for vexation Brian Gorrell has won round two!![]()
