Many tourists have yet to discover this great Philippine attraction, a spectacle pinoys young and old, rich and poor, schooled and uneducated have enjoyed for years. In fact, it is a common topic in many conversations, some of which have led to intense arguments, long standing animosities or, even death. It is a show many Filipinos claim to be unequalled in any part of the world, established many decades ago but only gaining both popularity and intense infamy in recent years. There are performers of every shape and size, demonstrating their innate talent to entertain and deceive. But the biggest attraction, as always, are the animals. Mostly highly trained in their tricks, these predators keep their audience transfixed with endless antics and gimmicks that would put any entertainer to shame. And best of all,
the show is entirely free! This is the circus, the greatest show in the land that is Philippine politics!
In a country where everyone (this is no exaggeration) has a political opinion, governmental issues are understandably chaotic. Everybody wants in on the action, take center stage, and hug the limelight. This will of course mean valuable media exposure and, come election time, votes. With a majority of the electorate preferring “face value” and star quality over issues, it is no wonder that our dear, beloved country is suffering like this. There are endless scandals and exposes, accusations and denials being hurled left and right thus confusing the public. Who are we to believe? It seems like everyone is corrupt, everybody is an opportunistic liar hungry for power.
I share the sentiments of a street vendor interviewed on television recently. “Masakit na ang ulo ko sa kanila, lahat naman sila ay corrupt! (They’re giving me a headache, they are all corrupt).” Having said that, I intend to remain apolitical about this like some Filipinos. I will let the circus animals perform. I may even applaud at times, but never will I jump into the ring to join them. Let them roar, scratch and bite each other for in the end, like everything else in nature, it is the fittest who will survive.
As a “tribute”, I have decided to add these circus animals (the major ones at least) to a tag I received from Cheh and Manilenya recently. Sorry my friend, but I won’t use my phots here. Instead, I have decided to “honor” the country’s current newsmakers.

I wish magmypic.com had other magazine cover formats to choose from. I wish there were magazines like Corruption Today, Liars Quarterly, Deceit 101, or Crime Weekly. Ha ha ha!.
