The headlines of this morning’s news surprised me, as well as many others I’m sure. Articles declaring Barack Obama’s unexpected (?) win in the first of the caucuses and primaries for the presidential nomination in the United States were plastered all over the internet. It was a big setback for Hillary Clinton, former first lady and erstwhile frontrunner in this campaign. I was expecting to read about a Clinton win and the only thing I was looking for in the news was by how much. Certainly, this was what many observers around the globe were looking for as well since nearly all polls and analysis from the major news programs I watched before yesterday’s caucus were saying the same thing. However, it seems the American public has other plans. Indeed a big factor that may have swayed yesterday’s results was the big percentage of undecided votes (and Oprah Winfrey, he he). Hillary was already considered a shoo-in two years ago but look what happened. Though it is too early to tell with the fight only in its first stage, at least this campaign isn't turning out to be that predictable after all.
As I was reading the news, I suddenly remembered the dream I had with Hillary and Bill in starring roles. Do you still recall the post I made about that dream? Let me refresh your memory here. Did I jinx Hillary with that dream? He he. Sure hope not. Or was it telling me something else?
I am not in the habit of interpreting dreams, especially weird ones, but I distinctly remember three things about the former first lady in the dream (actually there were two dreams, a first one, and a sequel). In one part of the dream I saw her running away from me together with Bill. In fact,
she was running so fast I could not believe it. What did this mean? Was this a representation of her early lead in the campaign when everybody else was playing catch-up and she was being considered a shoo-in for the nomination?
In another scene, she was seated behind me but had a blank expression on her face, almost in shock. She just sat there together with Bill, motionless, speechless. Was this the representation of today’s events? The shock, unexpected loss in the Iowa caucus? Then in another part of the dream, we were riding a car (an SUV in fact) that was jumping over hurdles across the road much like what a horse would do in a steeplechase. Does this mean that her campaign will overcome all difficulties along the way and end up winning the presidency? Hmmm, maybe the hurdling part will prove true but there was nothing in my dream to indicate that she would win the campaign, at least none that I remember.
What am I doing? Have I lost my mind translating my weird dream and relating it to present events, event predicting the future? And believing it? Yikes, my mind is playing tricks on me again. The effects of too much blogging, bloghopping and web surfing. I have to snap out of this or else end up like Madame Auring, a local fortuneteller and pseudo psychic cum dream reader! Scary thought.
