I received this tag from kat last week, sometime mid-week when I was doing three of my earlier tags on tag day. I promised kat I would do this but at a later time since I had just finished with three others and I didn’t want to fill my homepage with memes. so here it is (I’ll probably do another one later in the day so this means that today is tag day 2, the sequel. he he.):
what is your comfort food / drinks and why is it so? grab a picture of it and post it if you may. enjoy!
before I did this I had to look up what exactly ‘comfort food’ meant. I had to be sure. wikipedia gave me this: “comfort food is typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easy to prepare. many people turn to comfort food for familiarity, emotional security, or special reward. the reasons a dish becomes a comfort food are diverse but often include pleasant associations of childhood. small children often seem to latch on to a specific food or drink (in a way similar to a security blanket) and will repeatedly request it in high stress situations. adults eat comfort food for a sense of continuity.” aha, just as I thought!

sinigang na baboy (pork cutlets in sour broth) is my comfort food because it always reminds me of home. mom is a good cook and her version of this classic pinoy dish was always a welcome treat as I was growing up. she uses pork spareribs (not too lean, not too fatty) and cooks them until
tender. but the showstopper of this dish has always been the broth. that first sip of this hot, tangy liquid is just pure pleasure!
I remember craving for sinigang na baboy whenever I was homesick in college. I was studying here in manila while the rest of the family was living abroad, and on lonely days (and nights) I would look for the nearest max’s, barrio fiesta, kamayan or any other restaurant serving filipino food. a hot serving of this dish somehow eased my longing for home and family.
a mcdonalds quarter pounder with cheese is another comfort food for me. must be because I have gorged so many of this sandwich in my four years of employment at that fast-food giant that my system is still having a hard time with withdrawal. he he. whenever I’m on the road, either stuck in traffic or traveling longer distances out of town, I would look for those familiar golden arches and order one of these (sometimes two, depending on my appetite). and don’t forget the french fries! hmmmm. somehow, bites on that calorie-laden combination calm my nerves and ease my tense driving muscles, not to mention my ever-growling stomach.I have other comfort food choices (chicken noodle soup, royal tru orange soda, max’s fried chicken) but these two top my list. how about you?
I am tagging the following: em dy (I’m curious what your choice is), joan joyce (yours as well) , teacher julie, liza, lordmanilastone, manilenya, cheh, meeya, makoy and ambo.
