it was a different manny pacquiao that i saw in his match earlier today. he seemed weaker, tentative, almost as if unsure of his punches. though he won the match by unanimous decision, this is not what pinoys expected. we were looking for a knockout, or at least a tko or knockdown from him. i'm sure he tried his best to get these results but something was lacking. was it the self-confidence factor that i raised in my previous blog? has his loss in the elections somehow affected his psyche? we'll never know for sure but i am certain that many of those who watched the match noticed what i pointed out. one ringside commentator even said that this is the match where manny made the most signs of the cross. thereby implying that he was unsure of himself and was seeking divine intervention.
nevertheless, a win is a win no matter how close it was. another feather in tha cap of pacman and another reason for mexicans to hate him even more! my congratulations to manny for bringing pride to our country once more. iba ka talaga, manny!
as usual it was not a "LIVE" telecast via satellite that we got from our local channel gma network. it's a pity we don't have pay-per-view. as with all of the previous boxing matches, it was a very much delayed telecast, aggravated by numerous commercial inserts. whew! the whole broadcast took almost 5 hours! and to think that we already knew the result through the internet as early as noon.
(note: was it chris tiu of ateneo who i saw in the audience as the tv camera was panning across the full house crowd. definitely looked like him.)
it was also good news from shanghai as my idol kimi raikkonen of ferrari won the chinese grand prix. moreover, current worcl championship leader lewis hamilton failed to finish as he paid the price for stretching his car to its limits. he lost control as he was entering the pits and ended up stalled in the gravel. ha ha. that's the law of averages catching up on you lewis! with this loss, kimi and fernando alonso were able to catch up with hamilton in the points standings. with one race to go in the season, the three are separated by only a few points and that final race two weeks from now in brazil will determine the worcld champion for 2007. wow, what a finish to the season!
it was three out of three for me today (all my bets won!) as la salle emerged champion in the uaap! ang sarap ng feeling, grabe! (what a great feeling!). i still can't believe it. waiting for it to fully sink in. what a season for the green archers, and this deserves a separate blog entry of its own. see you there.
animo la salle!
