Welcome!

mixed fortunes

well, it was a day of mixed fortunes at the 2007 u.s. open, for me at least. one of my bets, serena lost to justin henin in their quaterfinals match and it wasn't pretty. serena played well below par and henin naturally took advantage of this opportunity. disappointing.

on the other hand, nadal was booted out quite convincingly (he he he) by his compatriot david ferrer! hapless nadal looked pretty worn out as the match progressed. towards the end it was obvious that his body was giving out. see you at the next grand slam rafa!

Car Crashes Into Man's Home For Tenth Time

A German man thinks it may be time to move after a vehicle ploughed into his house for the 10th time.

"If we stay, someone's eventually going to kill us. We're living in a time bomb," 59-year-old Manfred Sedlazek says.

Sedlazek is reluctant to leave the house he built himself, which is on a bend of a busy road, but said it may be his only chance if he wants to live. The latest is a 40-tonne truck that blasted through the side of his red-brick house in northern Germany. Luckily Sedlazek wasn't home and returned to find the shattered vehicle sticking out of his living room. Police estimated the damage at about $140,000.

Nine previous smashes into the two-storey house Sedlazek lives in with his wife have wrecked his kitchen, bedroom and garden.

Couple Wins Millions In Lottery For Second Time

Some people have all the luck. A New York couple won has $5 million after buying the winning ticket in last week's New York Lotto. But that's not all, they also won $2.5 million after splitting a $10 million jackpot with three others in 1996.

81-year-old Eugene Angelo says he and his wife would share their new fortune with their three sons and their families. Each of their sons will get about $513,000 before taxes.

"We're a little older, a little wiser and there are a few more of us, when you count the grandkids," Eugene Angelo says. "We're still the same old people. Still very excited. It's a great feeling."

While his wife, 74-year-old Adeline Angelo, a retired medical secretary, says she hopes the new money will "buy us good health and longevity." With the money from their last big prize, the couple moved from the Bronx to Putnam County, the couple say they will continue to live modestly and still buy lottery tickets "just for the fun of it."

This was only the third time in the New York Lotto's history that a winner has hit the jackpot twice. The odds of winning just once are 22.5 million to one.

"The Angelos are living proof that lightning, or in this case, random luck, can strike twice," says the Lotto's director.
