Welcome!

the fall and the glory

.
i placed the heavy aluminum ladder firmly against the wall right below the dirty kitchen exhaust fan. prepared my cleaning tools (damp rag, brush and wd-40 oil) and climbed to start my task. not satisfied with the position of the ladder, i descended and put it on a slightly lower incline (big mistake!).

halfway through my chore, as i reached for the can of oil spray, it happened. the ladder slipped under me and i felt myself falling face-down on the pavement below. i remember flailing my arms haplessly trying to reach for something that i could anchor on to prevent, or at least slow down, my fall. nothing to hold on to. then i heard the ladder crash beneath me immediately followed by another crash as my body landed on it and the thud as my face hit the pavement.

momentarily dazed, i opened my eyes to the sight of blood, lots of it, on the floor and excruciating pain on my lower left torso. i couldn’t get up. the pain was unbearable. my face numb, i used my hand to feel where the blood was coming from. not my forehead or eyes, my nose neither. it was my lip. i busted my lower lip. my dad and brother soon came to the rescue and slowly (and painfully) helped me up.

quick first aid followed. pain relievers for my bruised elbows, thigh and groin. an ice pack for mybusted lip and lower left ribcage. slowly the pain subsided. thank God it was nothing serious. thank God i didn’t suffer nothing bigger than a busted lip on my face (though a broken nose might have provided a good excuse for a nose job! ha ha ha). after several hours the lower lip is starting to heal. the bruised ribs are still hurting but only when i cough or laugh.

moral of the story? never volunteer to do house chores again! he he. let the help do it. just be content with bumming around the house and watching television!

*****

the la salle-ateneo basketball game yesterday was a very good reward for a recuperating bum like me. watching it on television from start to finish, it was one of the most exciting encounters between the two schools.

early in the game i thought that la salle was on the way to another loss to our bitter arch rival. though ateneo was riddled with turnovers, the green archers couldn’t convert on these advantages and were scoring poorly from the field. the usually prolific ty tang was scoreless and ace rico maierhofer sent chills to every green-blooded’s spine when he sprained an ankle! but after the half-time break it was a different story. though neither team pulled away, the scoring was more competitive as both teams tried to outdo each other on the boards. jv casio started converting his usual triples and ty tang found his rythm in the homestretch.

with just seconds under two minutes to go la salle was in the lead by four points. then turnovers ensued for both teams. again no conversions. is it déjà vu? i asked myself. is my team going to lose again in the final seconds? just like their two previous heartbreaking encounters? NOT THIS TIME, as one la salle banner read. and it was true. though the blue eagles mounted a comeback including several three point attempts and a final two-point shot, a split free throw by cholo villanueva was what mattered in the end.

a well-deserved win that put DLSU’s green archers in solo second spot in the final four, with a twice to beat advantage over the winner of the knockout game between UST’s growling tigers and ATENEO’s blue eagles.

la salle showed its true grit and won when it mattered most!

animo la salle!
